Optometrist & owner
Richard was schooled at The Wallace High School in Lisburn and continued to study optometry at UMIST in Manchester. He worked in private practices in Thames Valley and Zimbabwe. After a year of travelling the globe he worked at the optometry department of Hogeschool Midden Nederland in Utrecht, The Netherlands. A move to Glasgow saw him working for a busy private practice in the centre of the city and becoming manager for several years. In 2000 he took over the 3 practices business in Northern Ireland which he still runs. Richard is a very skilled photographer of nature and wildlife. He also enjoys baking and spending time at the hockey pitch with his teenage girls.
Timothy took his B.Sc.(Hons) Optometry in 1999 and gained membership of the College of Optometrists in 2000. Since then he has been active in the provision and development of continuing education and training for optometrists and dispensing opticians. He was president of the Northern Ireland Optometric Society from 2010 -2012 and in that capacity represented the NI optometric profession at both local and national levels. In his role as an optometrist, Timothy provides every patient with a personal and friendly service, in a relaxed and professional environment, ensuring the most appropriate optical outcome is achieved. Outside of work he enjoys off-road cycling and the outdoors with his wife and young family.

Originally owned by Rod McDowell, Richard Morwood took over the shop in Banbridge in 2000, together with the two practices in Belfast which still trade under the name McDowell Opticians. In 2003 he moved premises, from a tiny shop at the bottom of Bridge Street to a beautiful corner shop. The shop's interior has always been kept up to date, but most of the investments have been in optical equipment.
